Deadlock xảy ra khi các transaction tạo thành một chu kỳ chờ khóa (lock cycle) lẫn nhau vô hạn. PostgreSQL tự động phát hiện qua `deadlock_timeout` và abort một transaction; lập trình viên cần phòng ngừa bằng cách chuẩn hóa thứ tự khóa và cài đặt cơ chế retry ở phía application.
